A new coverage in 2019 is available from many home insurance companies called Service Line coverage. This coverage is designed to cover sewer lines/water lines/power lines from the house to the street that may collapse, rot, burst and require the digging up of the yard to replace/repair the issue. Some municipalities in St.Louis may include lateral line for sewers in the real estate tax bill.
I have heard some municipalities will only help until the lateral line funds run out. In addition this may only apply to sewer line from house to street, not the underground water or utility lines.
Typically, this coverage costs less than $25 a year and has a limit such as $10 or $12,000 and may have a separate deductible.
